Fall is here which means it’s time to pull out the warm sweaters and jackets and enjoy the cooler temperatures. This is the time of the year when there are pumpkin patches to visit and many plans being made for the upcoming Halloween holiday. To celebrate fall, the team at Blooming Smiles would like to share a couple of braces-friendly recipes with you here that are both easy to make and delicious to eat!
While people wearing braces need to avoid biting into hard apples, they can enjoy soft apples that have been baked in the oven. This recipe is so good, even your friends and family not wearing braces will want some too!
Ingredients:
5 apples, cored, peeled and sliced thinly
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Dash of salt
Dash of nutmeg
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 F. Place sliced apples in a large bowl and mix all the other ingredients in. Put the apples into a non-stick baking dish, cover with foil and place in oven. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from oven when all the apples are soft, top with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy!
These soft fries made from butternut squash are simple to make, healthy and very yummy!
Ingredients:
1 pound butternut squash
Olive oil cooking spray
Salt
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 F. Peel and cut the squash into long, thin strips. Put the squash strips into a large bowl and spray with olive oil cooking spray until all the strips are coated. Then lay the strips on a wire rack on top of a foil-lined baking sheet and salt them generously. Bake for 40 minutes, turning the strips over halfway through. Remove from oven and serve with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.
